Appeal Procedure
  1. Membership of the Institute is based on clear, objective, professional and qualitative criteria. The Certification Appeal procedure provides two categories or 'grounds' which an individual can submit an appeal. The grounds are strictly applied and it will not be possible to accept a groundless appeal that does not fall within one (or both) of the grounds outlined below. The grounds on which an individual can appeal are limited to:

    a) Instances where there has been material and significant administrative error or other material irregularity such that the assessments were not conducted in accordance with the approved standards for the module/award.

    b) Where your performance was adversely affected by illness or other factors which you were, for valid and reasonable reason, unable to divulge before the meeting of the certification committee, and which could had a bearing on the committees' decision. An individual must give valid reasons with supporting documentation as to why the information was not made available prior to the certification committee decision being made. "Valid and reasonable reason" requires an individual to demonstrate that circumstances beyond their control prevented the disclosure of the relevant factors at the appropriate time. Person/family embarrassment or unwillingness to disclosure personal circumstances shall NOT count as "valid and reasonable reasons" for the purposes of these standards.
  2. When an applicant chooses to appeal the decision to terminate membership or deny accreditation, the applicant shall have fourteen (14) calendar days from the date of the notice of termination in which to file an appeal in writing with the Vice President of Certification Committee. We recommend that if no response has been received to an application sent to a Certification Committee, that the applicant should send a repeat application, i.e. the applicant should make two (2) attempts.
  3. The Institute Secretariat will check the appeal for completeness and will in turn submit it to the Vice President of Certification Committee, who will hear the appeal at its next meeting on the basis of the documentation provided.
The committee will meet as soon as possible but no later than thirty (30) calendar days from receipt of the appeal.
The Vice President of Certification will review the decision for termination/deny of certification and may set up a meeting with the committees members, consultant, and up to two members of the Advisory Committee.
  4. After reviewing the copies of document given by the applicant, the committee will discuss and decide on a final resolution in a private session, with a written rationale for the decision to be submitted to the Vice President of the Institute. A summary of the appeal and the final resolution from the committee shall be included in the applicant’s file.
  5. An applicant may make a final appeal of the termination of membership or denial of accreditation to the Chairman provided that the applicant can provide with the strong evidence and valid reasons to support his/her final appeal. This appeal must made in writing within 7 calendar days of the date of the committee decision.
